The Story Behind The Art
“Elements Of Me” depicts the many elements that give me happiness, warmth and purpose. Blooming flowers, scattered shells and the radiant sun personally make me feel a sense of deep grounding and spiritual peace. The sea shells symbolise early mornings collecting shells with my family along the crisp ocean shore, a ritual the connects me to the sea and my people. Similarly, the hibiscus’s displayed on the four corners and the central motif represent my siblings and I collecting bright flowers along our walks for our parents. Finally, the sun figure is illustrated as beaming and vibrant. It embodies the warmth of the sun on my skin in summer, capturing the essence of its healing power. Collectively, this artwork combines elements that make me feel wholesome, connected, free and alive.
About The Artist
Taylor-Lee is a young and upcoming Indigenous artist from the southern Gold Coast. She’s a proud young Kungadidji 16 year old who loves to surf, skate and paint. Often her art pieces will reflect this passion with ocean features, blue hues or boho pastels.
In 2023 Taylor-Lee’s artwork she designed for Naidoc Week was one of six highly commended art pieces chosen by the Qld government. Not long after this she then went on to win the Young, Black & Proud Scholarship for her art.
Taylor-Lee has since worked hard between her school work and surfing, designing new pieces that she sells on Instagram known as Ochre_Sisters in name of her and her younger indigenous sister.
